Commencing in Term 1, 2025, this is a tremendous opportunity for two faith-filled and dynamic educators to join our middle leadership team in these newly created positions.
3-year (2-point) Promotional Appointment (2025 – 2027) + full time permanent teaching position – Commence Term 1, 2025
Reporting to the Director of Identity, the Head of Identity (Middle School) and Head of Identity (Senior School) (2 x positions) will be consistent with the vision of Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA), the Mission Statement of the College and with Catholic teachings, principles and values and will assist the College to further its strategic direction in the area of Identity. Working as part of the Identity Team, they will assist the Director of Identity in the overall leadership of the mission and identity of the College as a Catholic College in the Edmund Rice tradition and have a shared responsibility in assisting, supporting and leading the religious life of the College and the formation of staff and students. Key responsibilities of the Heads of Identity include organisation, facilitation and maintenance of formation programs, preparation of relevant weekly liturgies, the nurturing of personal and communal spirituality, promotion of education for justice, peace and ecology, and development of collaborative and life-giving partnerships within and beyond the College community.
This is a dynamic role requiring exceptional communication, interpersonal and organisational skills together with an ability to prioritise and work autonomously. With a focus on continuous improvement, you will inspire, motivate and lead the community in the area of Identity.
The Head/s of Identity are 2-point paid positions with commensurate release and their own teaching allocation in the KLA that they are trained in (where possible).

Key Responsibilities
Identity Leadership
- Working with the Director of Identity in providing spiritual, religious and theological leadership for the College community (primarily students)
- Working with the Director of Identity, the College chaplain and the Spirituality/Faith Formation Prefect to nurture, provide input and support liturgical practice and participation within the College community
- Working with the Director of Identity in promoting the College’s commitment to peace, social justice and ecology
- Having leadership of and responsibility for one of the following special project areas: (1) Sustainability / Ecology or (2) First Nations Education
Educational Leadership
- Demonstrating excellence as a classroom teacher
- Keeping abreast of contemporary educational change and developments and contributing to a culture of review and development
- Coordinating the College’s service learning programs to promote social responsibility and justice and peace spirituality to the community (SOL Service and Social Justice Service)
- Collaborating with Faculty leaders to ensure the appropriate inclusion of Catholic values within the curriculum
Administrative Leadership
- Working in partnership with the Director of Identity to provide input, participate in and support the College’s programs, events, activities, publications and celebrations
- Collaborating with the Director of Identity to organise, develop, implement, evaluate and review formation programs
- Coordinating advocacy, awareness and fund-raising activities for the College Lenten Appeal
- Assisting with the coordination and organisation of liturgical events for the College community such as the Opening Mass, Easter Liturgy, Mothers’ Day Mass, Founder’s Day Mass, Fathers’ Day Mass, and Graduation Mass
Community Leadership
- Providing leadership and support in the development of formation programs, social justice knowledge, peace and ecology issues for members of the College community that guide and nurture spirituality in light of Gospel Spirituality, the mission of the Church, education for justice and peace, and the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice
- Supporting and empowering the work of justice and action groups within the College
- Working with the Director of Identity in promoting the College’s partnerships with different groups, including those on the margins of society; our Justice Partners
- Developing links and building relationships with local parishes in order to build the sense of our Catholic community in the Inner West area.
- Make a regular contribution to the College’s publications (e.g Especean, Lucerna and Lumen)
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate you satisfy the following selection criteria:
Essential Criteria
- Committed to respecting and upholding the ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of a school in the Edmund Rice tradition
- Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice and an in-depth working understanding of child safeguarding response and reporting obligations.
- Relevant teaching qualifications with NESA Accreditation and approval to teach in NSW with a willingness to teach Religious Education
- An established reputation as an outstanding teacher and have the qualities required to lead a Catholic College in the Edmund Rice tradition

- Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise tasks, meet prescribed deadlines and concurrently manage a number of competing tasks.
- Excellent rapport building, networking and relationship management experience to support the effective communication with students, colleagues and the wider community

- Postgraduate qualifications (in religious education, faith formation or theology, sustainability, ethics) or other faith-based qualifications

Aboriginal Education Worker (Identified Position) – Commence Term 4, 2024

This newly created role furthers our strategic priorities to drive reconciliation in education, with a holistic focus on strengthening relationships, respect and opportunities in the classroom, around the school and with the local community. The purpose of the role is to: support Aboriginal cultural awareness for all students with particular reference to Aboriginal students; help maintain effective relationships between Aboriginal students, Aboriginal parents, the Aboriginal community and College staff; and liaise with the Principal and College staff on protocols for interacting with the Aboriginal community in relation to staff and Aboriginal students in the school and in Aboriginal education activities. It is also to help guide our community in celebrating First Nations culture and contribution.
Permanent or temporary part-time position (15 hours per week) – Commence Monday 14 October 2024 (Term 4, 2024)

The Aboriginal Education Worker will work with, provide advocacy for and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at St Patrick’s College to connect to family, culture, identity, heritage and land/country as well as reach out to local communities to increase out enrolment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through deep and authentic connection.
Reporting to the Director of Identity, this role will include:
- Acting as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling and their cultural identity.
- Promoting a sense of welcome and belonging, so that all in the school community will gain greater respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ culture and each child will be provided with educational opportunities that are rich, fulfilling and promote a love of God.
- Supporting the school to understand and show respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s knowledge, skills and traditions to build and maintain relationships that are based on mutual respect and reconciliation.
- Raising expectations and enhancing the quality of student learning for all students by supporting the development of individualised plans that include cultural, curriculum and career goals.
- Developing a partnership with the local Aboriginal community, families and the school to create and promote a school environment that respects and values local Aboriginal cultures and protocols
- Liaise with families of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander communities to promote cultural perspectives ensuring Indigenous groups have an appropriate presence amongst decision-making in the College
- Bringing the local Indigenous culture into the College in the form of storytelling, yarning, cultural items, recognising days of significance, and learning about Aboriginal history.
- Community liaison, family support or integration of Aboriginal perspectives into the operation of the College
- Working as part of a team to support students in relation to their school participation and programs, attendance and retention.
